Outerbanks Lighthouses

May 1-4, 2009

Our first day of our Outerbanks adventure will be in beautiful Manteo at the Waterfront. Live music, artisans, period-dressed actors and other activities will fill the streets. Dinner will be on your own in this beautiful town. The next three nights will be spent in Kill Devil Hills. Day two we will start out at Kitty Hawk Wright Brothers National Memorial. This is the location of the first successful airplane flight in 1903. Next stop will be the Roanoke Island Festival Park, a 25-acre island where history comes alive. Visit a 16th-century ship, living history, an interactive museum and a variety of performing and visual arts. We will also see Jockey’s Ridge which is the tallest natural sand dune system in the Eastern United States in route to Bodie Island Lighthouse built in 1872 and is still operated by the Coast Guard. Dinner this evening will be included. Our third day will begin with Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, built in 1869. Then we will board the ferry to Ocracoke Island and also visit the Ocracoke Lighthouse, built in 1823. Enjoy dinner on your own on the Island. Day four wake up early and head home with many memories and photos of the Outerbanks and the beautiful lighthouses.
